Special Gifts 

Since its incorporation in 1978, Cynthia Woods Mitchell and George P. Mitchell, and the Cynthia and George Mitchell Foundation have  distributed or pledged more than $400 million in grants to causes, programs, and institutions.

An estimated 90% of the aforementioned gifts have benefited science or environmental and sustainability science-related fields, including environmental research (Mitchell’s grantmaking programs focus on research related to water, clean energy, sustainability science, and natural gas sustainability).

In addition to grant making within the foundation's core programs, gifts are made to select individuals, organizations, and programs in which the foundation historically has had particular interest.
